We didn't want Communist taking over the world. We tried to stop communist from taking over capitalist countries
colonized by french and invaded by mongolions
Yes and No. There were two Indochinese Wars and the Second Indochinese War corresponds to what is termed the Vietnam War in the United States and the American War in Vietnam. The First Indochinese War was a war primarily between the Viet Minh (the Vietnamese Communists who were the antecedents of the current Vietnamese government) and the French Colonial Administration.
No.
Not in Vietnam they weren't. Maybe in some other parts of the world.
Considering that the war involved ALL of the United States military weapons in the US inventory (minus nuclear weapons), and ALL of the US forces (including the US Coast Guard), for MANY YEARS; and that more than 3 times the amount of bombs were dropped in Vietnam than in all of WW2...yes it was the greatest war.
The Vietnam war is also called the Second Indochina War. The war was fought by between North Vietnam who were supported by China and Soviet Union and South Vietnam which was supported by the United States.
With the exception of the United Kingdom, every one of the five permanent United Nations Security Council members was involved in Vietnam. France fought an anti-colonial revolution from the end of World War II until 1954 called the First Indochina War. The United States was tangentially involved in the First Indochina War and actively promoted the creation of South Vietnam, which was targeted for annexation by USSR client-state North Vietnam. When the USSR supported North Vietnam attacked South Vietnam in the Second Indochina War (called the Vietnam War in the USA), P.R. China joined North Vietnam in providing supplies and troops.
Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia
If someone said, "I was in Indochina", you would most likely reply, "what part?" Meaning Cambodia, or Laos, or South Vietnam, North Vietnam, etc. Vietnam is to Indochina as Texas is to America (or Texas is to the United States). Example: "What part of the US are you from?" Reply: "Texas"
The United States did get involved in the Vietnam war because of communism in Vietnam.

After World War II, there were three main events(wars) that occurred in Indochina. The First Indochina War was the war between France and the North Vietnam. This war expanded into Cambodia and Laos also. The Second Indochina War or often called the Vietnam War, in which North Vietnam fought against South Vietnam and the United States. North Vietnam wanted to take over the South and to integrate Vietnam into one communist nation. The Cambodian-Vietnamese War took place after Vietnam War. In this war, the Khmer Rouge(Cambodian Genocide) army that led by Pol Pot fought against Vietnam. The war lasted until 1989.
Vietnam war
The Vietnam War or Second Indochinese War was a military engagement between North Vietnam and its allies (principally China and the USSR) and South Vietnam and its allies (principally the United States). From the South Vietnamese and US perspective, North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam in an attempt to annex it. From the North Vietnamese perspective, North Vietnam was liberating South Vietnam from illegal US occupation and manipulation.

Asians recognize it as the "Second Indochina War," however the United States uses the terminology "Vietnam Conflict", because we never reached DEFCON 1, or never declared war.
The Geneva Accords of 1954, which ended the First Indochina War, created two Vietnamese states, one controlled by the Viet Minh north of the 17th parallel and one controlled by the State of Vietnam (the former administrators of colonial Vietnam) south of the 17th parallel. The United States and France maintained their defense of the State of Vietnam (which would become the Republic of Vietnam or "South Vietnam"), which prevented the Viet Minh from forcibly uniting the two Vietnams until 1975.
