They did not want Germany punished, so much as they wanted compensation for the financial cost of the Great War; also, they were keen to make sure that Germany could not become a political threat again and spark a second war.

On this, they failed miserably.

Did Great Britain and France want the Germans to be punished for the destruction caused by World War 1?

yesFrance thought that they should bomb Germany back to the stone age after all of the damage and deaths they had made. Georges Clemenceau, France, was horrified after what Germany had done and thought they should suffer as much as France did in the war.America agreed that Germany should be punished, but not too harshly as they would seek revenge when they 'grow up' and rebuild.Britain agreed with both France and Germany but thought that they should squeeze the pips out of Germany. Lloyd-George realized that Germany would seek revenge if they were punished too hard but they shouldn't be punished too lightly in case they don't learn their lesson. So yes Britain and France did think that Germany should be punished.I hope this helped as it certainly helped me do my history homework.

They did not want to fall in command of Germany an lose there freedoms. Second Answer: The Nazi Germans had attacked Poland so the French and Brits declared war against Germany. The French gave up because they did not want their nation destroyed as it had been in World War 1. The Brits did not want one Nazi on their soil.

Why did Woodrow Wilson Clemenceau and Lloyd George have different attitudes about peace terms?

woodrow wilson wanted the peace treaty to ensure world peace. he even set up 14 points in how to ensure this.but clemenseau had other ideas. he and his french public was furious by how much damge germany had caused during the war in france, they were the ones who saw most of the battle and they wanted germany to be crushed. they wanted them crushed so that there would be no way onearth that germany would have any strength to start another war because they had lost.yet, Lloyd gerge, agree with wilson. he wanted peace across the countries, but his public didnt. they agreed with the french. they didnt want germany crushed. they just wanted germany to be punished for the damge, destruction and trouble thatthey had caused.

Why did the french and the begians invade the ruhr in 1923?

Because the Treaty of Versailles stated that Germany must pay a large amount of money (war reparations) towards the Allies after the WW1. For many reasons, Germany could not afford these payments, their economy, industry, and basically the whole country would just collapse if they were to continue to pay. The French and Belgians, being the main 'victims' in the war, were outraged, did not listen to the excuses, and invaded the Ruhr Valley in Germany. The Ruhr was Germany's main industrial area and thus - their main supply of wealth. This basically meant that the French and Belgians could get the money that Germany could not afford to pay them.
