King George III became the King of Great Britain and Ireland in 1760. He in fact was the principle British leader and therefore ruled the American colonies. His economic policies based on the mercantile system of trade, importing, exporting and taxation was harmful to the American colonies. The colonists also had no voice in the British Parliament. Americans blamed him and his mimisters for their economic and political problems.
