Why did the people of Germany hate their government after World War 1?

# The public had been led to believe by Propaganda that Germany would win the war. The defeat was sudden and unexpected, they needed someone to blame. # The Army Generals who were in fact to blame for losing the war due to their plans, advised the Kaiser to change Germany from an authoritarian state into a parliamentary democracy. This was before the end of the war - blame for defeat was therefore passed onto the new politicians (Stab in the back myth, November criminals) # The public were simply expected to adapt to the new political system. there had been no warning that it was going to happen, and it was too much for them too suddenly. # All these reasons resurfaced later during the 1923 hyperinflation, 1929 depression and so on.

They experienced a economic depression because they had to pay reparations for other countries war costs in WWI. They could not have a military and had to give up much of their territory because of the Treaty of Versailles.

The treaty for WW1 really set out to punish Germany for the war. The result was a 20 years span where they were unable to create a military and they had horrible inflation by the 1930's because they were required to pay reparations to other European countries. Hitler hit the right tone with the people of Germany and once he got in any form of a democratic society was gone.
