Why did the slaves adopt Christianity?

Before i answer this question you must understand that slaves was strip completely of all their culture, basically their way of life. When they arrive in the New World they was force in finding this new way of life. Slaves adopted Christianity because slave owners told the slave that if they did than they would eventually obtain freedom, which they never did. Eventually slaves had to find their cultural identity so they adopted Christianity willingly and recreated it to fit to their means.
