Nixon visited Russia in the 1970's to begin to negotiate a treaty between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. about the number of nuclear weapons in the countries, known as the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks. When he visited he signed the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, which limited the number of nuclear weapons in the two countries. By doing this he was able to relieve tensions and begin to improve relations between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R.
