The answer before this was completely wrong! At the time Russia was going through two different civil wars in the nation! It was having way to many internal conflicts to be fighting a war with a country. In 1917 Russia made a treaty called Brest Litovsk in which a lot of land was lost!
The treaty between Hitler and Russia, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, was perfectly logical for both nations, since it would have allowed them to carve up Europe between them (Germany getting Western Europe and Russia getting eastern Europe) without having to fight with each other. If Hitler had complied with the terms of this treaty, rather than betraying Russia, he would then have had the military resources needed to defeat England and to win the war. But he was overconfident.
The Treaty of Non-Aggression between Germany and the Soviet Union, also known as the Nazi-Soviet Pact and the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact (after its chief architects, Soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav Molotov and German foreign minister Joachim von Ribbentrop).
Germany agreed to the pact to allow it time to arm and mobilise, however by default this allowed Russia to do the same.
Lenin and the newly founded communist government in Russia did not want war, they wanted to focus on establishing communism in Russia.
To make sure Germany had BALLS!!
Depending on what you mean, I'm guessing that it's Poland that they invaded first, or otherwise it's one of the countries that Germany had lost because of the Versailles Treaty, that they demanded to have returned or would start war. This could also be Russia. Please be more specific.
The Treaty of Versailles..which also is the reason that caused/gave the Germans a reason to start a storm..
The treaty of Versailles forced Germany to start world war1.
France wanted Germany to suffer badly as revenge for France's losses. Britain wanted the Treaty to be harsh, but not too harsh that it made Germany too weak to stop a possible communism spread from Russia to Western Europe. (N.B. This was Lloyd George's fear; the public just wanted Germany to suffer.) America felt it should stay out as much as possible of future European affairs, and only wanted to make peace with Germany and restrict her so she wouldn't start another war. Because if one side doesn't think the treaty's fair they may start another war. The perfect example is the Versailles Treaty. Germany didn;t like it and the disatifaction added to the appeal of Hitler's offer to take over Europe.

The treaty is called the Versailles Treaty. It was signed on June 28, 1919it is considered as the peace settlement between Germany and the Allied Powers that officially ended World War I.However, the conditions in the treaty were so punitive upon Germany that many believe the Versailles Treaty laid the groundwork for the eventual rise of Nazis in Germany and the start of World War II.
Russia and Germany had promised each other full cooperation before the start of WWII

While Germany was fighting in France and Belgium Russia mobilised quickly and sent her troops towards Germany.
The treaty unfairly blamed Germany for WWI, while Germany didn't even start it. They had to cut their military and pay all war reparations. This made Germany a very weak country. Late Germany found themselves in deby. In their time of need a young Adolf Hitler will rise to power promising to fix all the problems in society including the wrongs resulted from the Treaty of Versailles

The Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by a Serbian. The Austrians declared war and Russia tried to help. Germany, under treaty told the Russians to stop and attacked Belgium, France and declared war on Russia.
