mine quit working and it turned out to be the printed circuit on the back of the cluster panel they can go out pretty easily sometimes its just one connection but mostly more than one gauge will quit working as well. those trucks also have a tendency to have bad gauges i have had to replace the gas gauge and oil pressure recently. to test you can take a meter and ground it and touch the + to the corresponding metal rod on the back of the gauge and move the arm if the arm moves in sync with the meter it is working and at that point i would say check for shorting in the wire and places it could b grounding out due to exposed wire.

Why does the fuel gauge not work on a 1999 Chevrolet blazer?

If the fuel gauge isn't working on a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer it could possibly be because the float is stuck in the fuel tank. I had this problem when I got my 99 blazer, the float and sensor for the fuel gauge is on the fuel pump which is in the fuel tank to keep it temperature regulated. I had to replace my fuel pump, which ended up going bad on me, and after it was replaced the gauge works just fine.
