Historically it is called the 'Allied Intervention'.

After Russian signed a peace treaty (Brest-Litovsk, March 3,1918) with Germany, removing Russia from the war, the allies knowing that Germany could now remove it's divisions from the Eastern Front in Russia to France, make a major attack on Paris and win the war.

Faced with this event, the British and French governments decided upon an Allied military intervention in Russia. They had three objectives:[4]

  1. Prevent the German or Bolshevik capture of Allied material stockpiles in Arkhangelsk.
  2. Mount an attack rescuing the Czechoslovak Legion stranded on the Trans-Siberian Railroad.
  3. Resurrect the Eastern Front by defeating the Bolshevik army with help from the Czechoslovak Legion and an expanded anti-Bolshevik force of local citizens --- and, in the process, stop the spread of communism and the Bolshevik cause in Russia.
Note: The United States and Japan was to secure the Trans-Siberian railroad in Siberia. About 8,000 American soldiers were in the intervention at Vladivostok and about 5,000 at Archangel. The American soldiers stayed in Siberia until 1920, long after the treaty had been signed.

How is American War different from Russian War?

The American Forces fought with the other Allied countries while the USSR fought more on their own but they still planned strategy and shared resources together. The Russians lost over 10 million servicemen in the war whereas the US lost 400,000 servicemen. The Russians were invaded by the Nazis on their own land. The US did not have an invasion from the Russians. The US had managed to develop the atom bomb, but the USSR did not. The Russians hated the Germans very much because of the 20 million Russians the Nazis killed and raped. The Russians took revenge on the Germans for doing that. They raped hundreds of thousands of women. The Russians were communists while the Americans were democratic people. The USSR had a dictator, but the Americans had a leader they chose to represent them. The Russians suffered much more during World War 2 than the Americans did.
