When the Constitution was first proposed to the 13 colonies, many colonies rejected it because it did not give them the freedoms or rights that they had demanded from the King of England. They demanded that these things be added to the Constitution before they would ratify it. To be productive and to get rid of the Articles of Confederation (the quickly drawn precursor to the Constitution), the Constitution was accepted on the condition that several amendments be attached shortly thereafter. Thus the Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787 and the first 10 amendments were adopted on August 21, 1789, which later became collectively known as the Bill of Rights.
In summary, the writers of the Constitution made sure amendments could be added as it was the only way to quickly get the Constitution ratified.
after the civil war The 13th(abolished slavery), 14th( all former slaves are granted citizenship), and 15th(That any citizen, no matter what race, could vote) amendments were added to the constitution.
the bill of rights was added after the war and after there was no freedom for people with the new constution. The articles of confederation were not working out for our new country. It was added December 15, 1791.
False. The Articles of Confederation were the original plan for how 13 separate and sovereign colonies could work together in a common framework. These were drafted during the Revolutionary War. The first ten amendments to the Constitution are called the "Bill of Rights".
It was attached to the US Constitution. VA and NY wanted Bill of Rights added to the Constitution for they could ratify it.
To outline the rights of individuals. When the constitution was written the individual colonies were asked to ratify it and so give up their independence and form the United States. Since a war for independence had just been fought, the colonies had concerns that the new federal government could become tyrannical and take away the freedoms they had fought so hard to win. The Bill of Rights was added to the constitution to make it more palatable and remove some of the fears about losing states rights. Even the states that were willing to ratify the constitution without the rights listed were happy to see them spelled out .
The amendment process was added so the constitution could change and grow.
The thirtenth addmement said that slaves could be free.because the emansion proclamation
There is a total of 27 amendments in the constitution. The first ten are known as the Bill of Rights and were added before the Constitution was ratified by 9 of the 13 states in 1789. The rest came off and on through the years. The 13, 14, and 15 are after the civil war and they make citizens of the slaves and give the right to vote to slaves. The 19th gives women the right to vote and was added in 1920. The last one added lowered the age of voting from 21 to 18 and that was added in 1971. It was argued that if a person could fight for their country at 18 they should be able to vote as well.

The founders created a Constitution that could be adapted for the future through amendments. Popular sovereignty is what gives the Constitution this much power.
To keep one part of the government from getting too powerful or to take major authority over one another!
so if two of the other government branches thought the other was too powerful they could check the issue then balance the branches
An amendment is a change in the Constitution, which could either be an addition, a deletion or simply a modification. In the history of the U.S. Constitution, only 27 amendments have been ratified.
So that random and potentially faulty amendments could not be just stuck there..

So that the Constitution could be changed as the country changed
