As you probably know, this goddess of love was first called Aphrodite by the Greeks and later called Venus by the Romans. According to the Random House Webster's College Dictionary, the etymology of the word "Venus" comes from the Latin root Vener- which means "to desire." I found this information using Def|i|ni|tions.net (Stands4LLC, 2012), a great free resource that finds information from multiple dictionaries when you search. Likewise, the Online Etymology Dictionary suggests that the etymology of the word "Aphrodite" comes from the Greek root Aphros- which means "foam," a nod to the story of Aphrodite's birth (Harper, 2012).
So that answers the question... maybe. According to the above sources, "Venus" could have roots in Sanskrit (a language far older than Latin) as the root Vana- which also means "desire" or "wish," and "Aphrodite" could be derived from the Phoenician goddess of love Ashtaroth (who was the Assyrian Ishtar long before her).
