It's no different than Asians, Hispanics or Native Americans. Europeans discriminated against African Americans due to their supposed "stupidity," hinting at their tribal ways (just as the Native Americans were stereotypically called "savages"). The history of the past increased sentiment towards African Americans in America, mainly with "Pro-Whites," or white racists and bigots. Now they are stereotypically seen as "In the Ghetto," thieves, unintelligent and uncivilized. But that's obviously not the case, considering the many contributions that they have given to society, and the reports on the "majority" in terms of behavior patterns and intellect.

Bigoted whites discriminate on the basis of ignorance, selfishness and color (yes, something so vague and silly as "color").

White people many years ago managed to be the first to be able to develop fire arms and at the same time a technology that made them wealthy. As a result theyattained the power to kidnap people from less powerful society's such as existed in Africa and turn them into slaves to be used as they saw fit. No sane person has to see this happening for long to see that this sort of thing is just plain wrong. So to make them selves seem in the right those that promoted slavery presented the people that were used as slaves as less then human. The system of using coloured people as forced labour was convenient because it was easy to tel them a part from the free. and the uneducated whites were easily coned into believing that there was something lower then them.

Discrimination is one of mankind's earliest traits. Many people feel that anybody who isn't just like us for things we will seize on as important should be shunned.

Discrimination can be based on several factors. In the case of European descended Americans the black people:

  • Used to be our property
  • Had different facial features (They don't look like "us")
  • Dressed differently (They don't wear proper clothes)
  • Ate different foods prepared in strange ways (They don't make normal food")
  • Generally lived in communities apart from European based people (They're stand-offish)
  • Spoke in a way we don't use t (What art thy saying about us?)
  • Had a work ethic that let them work hard for lower pay (We'd never work that hard for so little, will they take our jobs?)
  • Had a social interaction that Europeans found different

A close examination of these factors indicates no real problem except being "different". For people inclined to discriminate agains others, this is enough.
