Why did you choose the Christian denomination you joined and not the others?

Even though the Body of Christ is one, there are many expressions of it. Some denominations are more open to God's Holy Spirit than others. Have you ever been to a church that was so formal that you wanted to leave because the Holy Spirit was being quenched there. There is a difference between being formal and being legalistic. If you are formal and sincere as a Christian, let's say in a Lutheran church, the Holy Spirit still has room to work somewhat. However, when we become legalistic like the Pharisees of The Bible in Jesus' day, we shut out the Spirit and make our own religion. Each church even within a denomination is different depending on whether they are allowing God to work in their hearts.
As to why I joined the church I did, it is because I have finally found the place I belong. Can you imagine if all churches were like the Catholic church or a pentecostal church on the other extreme. Everyone belongs somewhere, but if we allow ourselves to be hurt in a particular church and never go back to any church, we miss the corporate fellowship. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 10:25, not to forsake the gathering together of ourselves in church. We need that togetherness to help encourage and strengthen us for what we will face in the coming week.
