Armenian Genocide is a internationally contentious issue. While, there are several high-profile nations such as France and Switzerland which have taken a political stand on the historical factuality of the "genocide", there is no internationally accepted truth. There are political negotiations between the Turkish and Armenian governments so as to resolve the contested viewpoints in an internationally transparent forum, whereby both sides will bring forth their historical documents. However, such a forum has not taken place yet. Turkish viewpoint states that Armenian-Turkish citizens living under the jurisdiction of the Ottoman Empire (predecessor to present-day Turkey) were never the target of any genocidal campaign. This claim is supported by the historical fact that Armenian populace living in the western side of the country were not affected by any killings, deportations or internships. Armenian population were forced to relocate during the latter part of the World War One, as a result of the civil unrest in eastern Turkey caused by this population (that were relocated.) Turkish historical records indicate that Armenian-Turkish nationals had joined in the war effort of the invading Russian armies, by means of scouting, joining ranks in the said army as well as forming irregular forces. Turkish side contends that there are historical records showing such irregular forces attacking villages and cities, killing Turkish and Kurdish co-nationals within the Ottoman zone of control. Turkish side further argues that Istanbul government responded by having the Armenian-Turkish nationals relocated by force to the Arabic part of the Empire, which constitutes the present Syria and Lebanon. There are records of civilians dying in this relocation effort, caused partially by lack of nutrition during war-time shortages as well as simple neglect on the side of officials in charge. Finally, Turkish side shows historical documents proving that any army or government officials involved in this mishandling of relocation were executed following their civil trials post-war. In other words, the death of Armenian-Turkish citizens were treated with due care, and the wrong doers punished. ___ The Turkish government stubbornly refuses to admit that the Ottoman Empire committed genocide. There is plenty of evidence from non-Turkish sources.
