The Americans opposed to the peace treaty because many Americans objected it. They said it made the United states into a colonial power. Before the senate approved the peace treaty, a great debate took place.

American president Woodrow Wilson did not want to punish Germany too harshly and wanted League of Nations. the rest of USA's Government had objected to that because they wanted to isolate itself from Europe and its problems.
