There are numerous major threats to Australia plants.

Clearing by humans in a major cause of endangerment. Not only are healthy specimens decimated when large tracts of land are cleared, but the lack of specimens means there is less chance for pollination and hence reproduction of the species.

Another threat is the accidental or deliberate importation of pests which kill the plants. Sometimes these pests kill off native insects which are the primary pollinators for the native plants. Without these insects, the plants cannot be pollinated.

Similarly, the accidental or deliberate introduction of non-native animals can lead to extinction of plants. The introduction of rabbits has caused the extinction of several species, as they eat a plant right down to the roots. Sheep and other grazing animals have had a similar effect.

Introduced non-native invasive species have taken over native vegetation habitat, competing with Australian plants.

Man has altered natural bushfire regimes in Australia, and this has affected how and when plant seeds germinate.

The introduction and spread of agriculture has led to increased desertification, particularly in South Australia. This, in turn, has threatened the survival of native species living in specific environments. Also, man fiddles with natural waterways to provide irrigation for his crops. When natural watercourses are altered, this can sometimes result in more prevalence of flooding, which also poses a threat to native species, particularly when they are not used to it.
