Actually they don't worry about "any living being", they do care about "any sentient being." The difference is that sentient (self aware) beings know about their own existence. This makes the problem open ended and one must define sentience to conform to the condition. Some Buddhists include all animal life from amoebas up, others require some "brain" is needed and only start with insects, others would require a higher functioning brain like fish, amphibians or mammals. Buddhism is an open ended philosophy leaving many things up to the believer to set his or her own criteria.
