Israel represents a number of major issues to Arab countries. It forcibly uprooted the lives of numerous Palestinians upon its independence and continues to make their lives difficult in the West Bank and Gaza though military occupations, blockades, and settlements. Israel also has regional supremacy in the form of nuclear weapons and the most advanced military in the region. Israel is also based primarily on Western Values and Styles of Governance, leading many Middle Easterners to see Israel as a form of neo-colonialist Imperialism. In addition, most Israeli Jews are, at most second generation Sabras (born in Israel), making Israel primarily an immigrant country and Arabs wonder why they must bequeath land that they have lived on for hundreds of years to these newcomers. Finally, there is a strong concept in Islam that holds that land that has entered the Islamic Sphere (Dar Al-Islam) should remain Islamic in perpetuity. Since the land that Israel occupies was part of the Islamic Sphere without pause from 1187-1919, and for nearly 400 years before the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem, the loss of this area is felt particularly strongly (as opposed to Spain which was only ever controlled for 781 years and was lost over 500 years ago).

How would you describe Israel to The US?

Israel-United States relations are an important factor in the United States government's overall policy in the Middle East, and Congress has placed considerable importance on the maintenance of a close and supportive relationship. The main expression of Congressional support for Israel has been foreign aid. Since 1985, it has provided nearly $3 billion in grants annually to Israel, with Israel being the largest annual recipient of American aid from 1976 to 2004 and the largest cumulative recipient of aid since World War II. Congress has monitored the aid issue closely along with other issues in bilateral relations, and its concerns have affected Administrations' policies. Almost all U.S. aid to Israel is now in the form of military assistance, while in the past it also received significant economic assistance. Strong congressional support for Israel has resulted in Israel receiving benefits not available to other countries.

Why don't Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs get along?

Israel is hated in the Middle East and has been since its creation. This is because Israel is the Jewish homeland but the Arabs who live across the Middle East and also North Africa also see Israel as their homeland. Syria are one of the many Arab nations in the Middle East. It is this religious conflict that stops Syria and Israel getting along.
