Israel is hated in the Middle East and has been since its creation. This is because Israel is the Jewish homeland but the Arabs who live across the Middle East and also North Africa also see Israel as their homeland. Syria are one of the many Arab nations in the Middle East. It is this religious conflict that stops Syria and Israel getting along.
Israel gets along fine, but keeps a wary eye out, since the surrounding Arab
countries, as well as a few who do not even border Israel, have shown this
habitual tendency to roll their armies into Israel in attempts to conquer it,
during the past 60-some years, still use maps in their elementary schools
on which Israel does not exist, and teach their children and their more
impressionable adults that Jews are descended from apes and pigs, and
that heaven smiles on those who are successful at getting into Israel,
blowing themselves up, and taking some Jews with them.
Israel is considered by many of its neighboring countries to be undeserving of the right to
exist. Their viewpoint has been expressed militarily on a number of occasions since 1948,
always unsuccessfully, which has not enhanced their sense of national self-esteem.
There are many reasons for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but most of them stem from the nationalist movements of the Jews and the Arabs which seeked to gain sovereignity.
Israeli is the common term. However, I know Israeli Arabs who would prefer to be called Palestinians, and before 1948, Jews from the region now known as Israel were known as Palestinian Jews.
It is unclear what an "Israeli" is prior to 1948 as there was no state of Israel before that point. If the term "Israeli" is also pushed back to the forerunners of the State, the Zionist Palestinian Jewry, it still only goes back to conflicts in the early 1920s. Additionally, many non-Zionist Palestinian Jews and Palestinian Arabs would also have descendants who would be Israeli citizens. Between all of the various wars and riots since the 1920s, roughly 25,000 Israelis and Palestinian Jews were killed at Arab hands (either Palestinian Arabs or Arabs from other countries). Prior to 1920s, the numbers would been incidental.
Ashkenazi Jews. Specifically, the plurality of Israeli Jews are of Russian origin. However, the most common origin of Israelis is Levantine (Israeli - from centuries ago, Palestinian, Jordanian, Lebanese, and Syrian) as the Israeli Arabs are almost all Levantine.
Neither, both compose roughly 40% each of Israel's population (maybe 35-45). Roughly 20% of Israel's population is made up of non-Jews, generally called Israeli Arabs. The Israeli Arabs are made up of ethnic Palestinian Muslims, ethnic Palestinian Christians, Druze, Bedouins, Circassians, Baha'i, Maronites, and Armenians.

Israeli Arabs have the same rights as Israeli Jews and therefore can choose to live wherever they want within Israel or Area C in the West Bank. Unlike Jews however they can also settle in Areas B and A where Jews are prohibited to enter by law. However few Arabs choose to live in settlements, except for Ariel where many Arabs study in the Shomron Academic Center, and few Jews in Judea and Samaria would like to have Arabs for neighbors.
