Because that is the way they have evolved. A cat's senses, particularly eyesight, is very sensitive to motion. Cats like to ambush prey, meaning they will creep up as close as possible, then pounce. Movement of the prey shows where it is, and allows the cat to make a accurate pounce.

∙ 12y agoCats will chase rabbits because, quite simply, rabbits are a natural prey item. While the most common animals the domestic cat will chase and eat are mice, rats and birds, some cats that are allowed to roam outside have been known to catch, kill and eat wild rabbits.
