The reason for a Chihuahuas large ears is because Chihuahuas originate from Chihuahua, Mexico and Mexico is a very hot place. Animals adapt to their environment and ears release a lot of heat so, if a Chihuahua comes from Mexico which is HOT that means its ears are going to be large to release excess heat so they don't over heat.
They have large ears to release the excess heat from their bodies. Plus in the wild large ears kept them alert to big birds that would carry them away.
Because they are so little they need to hear whats coming before it gets there
Because they were selectively bred for those traits.
They use to help hunt small animals out of their holes so they had to listen close to movement
Because they were used to run rabbits and other small animals out of their hole so long nose to smell and big ears to listen.
German shepards have pointy ears too. But it's just the kind of breed they are.
They have big ears so they can listen
Chihuahuas have UFO's for ears.
yes they are flopppy

Nothing. That is perfectly normal! When we baught our Chihuahua she had floppy ears!Your chi's ears will stand up when the cartlidge in it's ears strengthens.
Chihuahuas ears are like radars and are extremely helpful as they pick up almost every sound.
So they can hear better... since they're small
i thinks its around 13-17 days old :)
No...chihuahua puppies ears tend to flop over. As your puppy gets older the cartlidge in their ears will get stronger and your chihuahua's ears will stay up.
small apple shaped head short snout, pointy medium/large ears. a chihuahua should be too small. yes you get tea cup chihuahua but these can be interbred and have poor health.
chihuahuas can protect themselves by their speed,or hiding. It will probably hide but if it can't then it will snarl and will definitely not turn its back on its enemy
These are some of the breeding problems of chihuahuas: * Chihuahuas are prone to shivering when they are cold, excited, or scared. * Chihuahuas can be unfriendly toward other dogs if they're not socialized when young. * The Chihuahua's ears can be prone to ear wax build up and dry skin. * Chihuahuas are happy as companions, but they do need 20 to 30 minutes of exercise daily and can go for much longer than you might expect. * Chihuahuas can be reserved with strangers. * Chihuahuas are not the best dog to have when you have young children.
CHIHUAHUASi own two chihuahuas, and when i got the first one, she came with her ears up, but she was a couple of months old, the second one's ears came up after a couple of weeks of having him, so i am assuming that between the first couple of weeks or months, the dogs ears should come up.Your chi's ears will stand up when the cartlidge in it's ears has strengthened. You may notice that at times it's ears will be up then they'll flop down a little while later...that is normal. Your chi's ears should be fully up when it's reached a couple of months old.
