If a package of hot dogs come in 10 then why does a package of hot dog buns just come in 8?

Butchers historically have always liked to deal with even weights. The size of Hot Dogs at the time were such that 10 of them equaled one pound. Even though some hot dogs packages are less than a pound now, they still stick to the 10 per pack.
Bakers, on the other hand, like to deal with even multiples of 4. Buns, be they hot dog or hamburger, have come 8 to a package since they first started.

because sausages are made in strings of ten and are put into packets of ten just for simplicity. Buns come in 8s because that is the number that will fit comfortably into one tray.
