One viewI believe it is a strong socio-political phenomenon. In our earliest pre-historic days, religious beliefs and practices tended to strengthen and unify groups. They offered comfort at a time when so little was understood about the physical world. This group affiliation bond is intensely strong, and has continued in varying forms all through our history. Unscrupulous men understood all too well how to exploit people's doubts and fears, and so the political connection was made.

Excerpt;"So, why do people believe weird things? "More than any other, the reason people believe weird things," says Shermer, "is because they want to. . . .It feels good. It is comforting. It is consoling." Secondly, weird beliefs offer "immediate gratification." People like weird beliefs because they are simple. Weird beliefs also satisfy the quest for significance: they satisfy our moral needs and our desire that life be meaningful. Finally, he says, people believe weird things because weird things give them hope." "Even so, Shermer seems to have overlooked or underemphasized some fundamental reasons why people believe weird things. Ignorance, for example, seems to be the main reason many people believe weird things. They simply do not know any better. If they had some knowledge about physics, chemistry, Biology, memory, the brain, the body, etc., they would not even consider many of the crackpot ideas put forth for their consideration."

Another viewBecause they exist. Not fairies and stuff, there's no proof. But I have the powers of telekenesis, telepathy, healing, abnormal strength... Another viewThe same reason they believe in Santa. It's all for the kids I hope and if it's not I'd be a little concerned.

The first answer has taken very little insight... I can prove ignorance to scientific ideas definitely is not the answer to beliefs: for example one very famous scientist Albert Einstein had a famous quote "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

-- Albert Einstein this shows that science without religion basically has no meaning... (it is just rubbish for the sake of it, basically.) and religion without science is just like people being oblivious to their surroundings as science "is a surer path to god than religion." ... the answer i can`t explain ! but i`d like to be able to! WITH thanks to the RE GCSE wall at saint philomena`s high school! By Katie mckenzie

Believing in god does not affect anyone other than the person who does. And why anyone cares if someone does is a mystery to me . But one thing is for sure, believing in man and govt will absolutely affect your life my life for the worse on every level. Belief in god equals self reliance and self control. Belief in man and govt equals tyranny

Is supernatural creatures are real?

First of all, you need to look up on your grammar a bit. Just saying. Well, it deprends in what you believe in. I myself believe that there are spirits, but if you're asking whether there are vampires, fairies and things like that, I don't know. I don't believe there is a species like that on earth that humans haven't found yet, but there are bound to be beings outside of our earth that we might believe to be 'supernatural'. Are supernatural creatures real? No one knows for sure, it's all about what you think, and what you feel about the subject.

Are fairies real?

Fairies, much like angels are inter-dimensional beings who live in a realm between realms. Fairies are very much real spiritual beings, just as angels are real spiritual beings. Both angels and fairies are spiritual beings of the light, but they exist at different levels of vibration.

Are supernatural fprces real?

Some people say that supernatural powers do or don't exist. In actuality supernatural powers do exist. People like ghost hunters and priests who perform exorcists encounter supernatural powers or beings such as ghosts, demons, and angels. If you are part of Christianity or almost any other religion they speak of some god. In my case I am a Christian so I believe in God. I also believe in angels which are supernatural beings, as well as demons. So supernatural powers do exist, but I don't believe that you should mess with supernatural powers because they can be really dangerous.
