No Muslim or Non-Muslim group makes the assertion that they are the "true" descendants of Abraham. Muslims assert that the Arabs are descended from Abraham's first-born son Ishmael, but they do not deny (and in fact support) the Jewish claim that the Hebrews were descended from Abraham's second son, Isaac.

Before being called 'Jews', they were called 'Hebrews': descendants of Abraham the 'hapiru' = 'wanderer'. Abraham would have been a polytheist (believer in many gods) before God called him. After the Hebrews settled in the Promised Land, they were called Israelites, and later, Jews.
