- Not all old people feel insecure, but a great many do. The reasons are: poor health; they can't see well enough to drive and have to rely on others to get out to doctors appointments or just shopping; diseases such as Alzheimer's/Dementia (memory loss) where the individual may not recognize where they are if they should go out. Most elderly would like to retain their dignity and independence for as long as they can. It is difficult for the elderly to rely on family or friends for support and often feel they are a burden and some elderly people have a great fear of being put in a nursing home and forgotten by family. The elderly are often targeted for phone scams or even scams on the internet. The elderly most often are inclined not to get into technology as the younger generations do and may feel confused and lost. Some elderly have lost their mate to death and their chances of finding another mate to go through life with is more difficult (some are lucky) and therefore they feel extremely lonely and forgotten. Elderly depression is also high on the list.
