Why do people pollute the earth even when they know it causes harm?

humans pollute the environment mainly because they dont believe that the little polluting that they do can cause a big amount of harm to the ozone layer. The fact that million or more individuals pollute the environment causes a higher percentage of damage towards the ozone layer. Up north or places that are extremely cold begin to become destroyed ,the ice melts and the cold areas become warmer causing the polar bears habitat to be gone. This is a major problem.

People don't pollute to be spiteful,

Pollution occurs because it is a by-product of our energy needs, for example if you watch television, this uses electricity, which comes from burning fossil fuels producing CO2 and other pollutants. Other activities such as running cars, electrical appliances or even heating bath water, produces pollutants. I'm sure you may partake in some of these, but I bet you don't do it just to affect the environment.

At the moment the governments are trying to reduce pollution but are finding it difficult as it requires world cooperation and millions of pounds worth of investment into alternatives of energy. For example India and brasil have discovered fossil fuels that could boost their economies, but pollute the world more, and The USA are the worst polluters in terms of CO2 produced per person, and as I said we need global cooperation to reduce this.

So basically although pollution is bad, it is recognised and people are trying to reduce it.
