If you read The Bible you will see that because Christians were persecuted and killed so much through out their early history and later, Christ told them, through the Apostles', to be fruitful & multiply so that some would survive to carry the Good New on. The tradition was promoted to this very day, that is why more Christian families have more children then others for the most part.

Anything done to artifically limit the number of births is unacceptable, in other words, a sin. So people who are genuinely following their religion tend to welcome all children that God has given to them, and to reject artificial Birth Control, abortion, etc.
