snakes, like all reptiles, are cold blooded, meaning they cannot keep themselves warm like mammals do. they are the same temperature as their surroundings. they like hot weather, 80-90 degrees, because that's their body temperature.

It is because they are cold blooded. This means that their temp. of blood is the same temp. as their environment. When it is cold they move slower and become tired. When it is warmer they move faster and it gives then energy.

Rattlesnakes do not only live in hot places but also in more temperate areas and are found high into some mountainous areas. They avoid those areas that have a really cold winter climate, however. As a cold blooded animal, they require warmer temperatures to be able to function and digest their food properly.

All snakes need heat. They have no way to regulate their own temperature and therefore they need external heat in order to digest their food.

They are cold-blooded, so they'd die if they lived in cold weather. Therefore, they mostly live in more tropical environments so they stay nice and warm.
