Why do the security light keep coming on in your 2002 grand am and won't start?

Mine comes on periodically too, and then the engine wont start. If you sit tight for about 5 - 10 minutes until the light stops flashing, the engine will start right up.

2001 grand am gt turns over but wont start?
Sometimes my sons 2001 Grand Am does that. It has to do with the Security System. Turn the key to ACC the Security light will start blinking and will continue to do so for 10 minutes. At that time the Security Light will stay on. At that point you can start you car. This works for him Good Luck.

check to see if your security light is on i had the same problem (they all do ) put your key in the "on " postition and leave it for 10 minutes until the security light flashes off and then start your engine.

More than likely it has a bad magnet in the ignition switch you need to replace the switch and then relearn the security system

The factory alarm causing the issue would be the security light flashing above the RPM guage. If the security light is flashing and the car will not start, follow the directions listed below.
