they call her the icon of democracy because way back in the Philippines marcos ruled Philippines in Dictatorship because he was president but corazon's husband ninoy Aquino stood up for the people of filipino but he was put into jail but when he got out he got sick so him and his family moved to u.s.a but when only him went back when he stepped out of the airplane they shot him and he died but no evidence that marcos killed him so he's still president so the people of Philippines got angry so they want another election but marcos won though the people didn't belive he won so his loyalist quit and went againts him also. after 3 whole years on when ninoy died corazon Aquino led many many people to protest againts marcos and the protest went for 4 whole days even the soldiers didn't fight againts them and marcos went to Hawaii and i think he died there so that mean corazon won and she was called icon of democracy because i think Philippines was the first country to do something like that

i hoped i helped :)

Talambuhay ni corazon cojuangco Aquino?

August 1, 2009 Former Philippine President Corazon Aquino, icon of people power in the Philippines and around the world, passed away at 3:18 am Saturday, her son, Senator Benigno Aquino III, said. The official cause of death was cardiorespiratory arrest. The 76-year-old Aquino was diagnosed with colon cancer in March of last year and was treated with chemotherapy. Last May, she underwent surgery to remove parts of her colon and was brought to the Makati Medical Center (MMC) in June due to loss of appetite. She never left the hospital, as her declining condition sparked a wave of emotion in the country and prompted the widespread appearance of yellow ribbons - on trees, car antennas, and even the Web. "She would have wanted us to thank each and everyone of you for all your continued love and support. It was her wish for all of us to pray for one another and for our country," Senator Aquino said. "Hinihiling ng aming pamilya ng kaunting panahon para makasama ang aming ina." He added that they chose a private funeral arrangement for the late president rather than avail of a state funeral in Malacañang. [See: No state funeral for Aquino] After being confined for barely two months at the MMC, Mrs. Aquino passed away early Saturday morning surrounded by her children. Celebrity host and family friend Boy Abunda was inside Mrs. Aquinos hospital room during the final moments of the former president's bout with cancer. "They were praying the sorrowful mystery Doon niya hininga ang …

What year did Cory Aquino died?

Corazon Aquino of the Philippines, whose ouster of one of the 20th Century's most corrupt dictators made her a global icon of democracy, died on Saturday after a 16-month battle against colon cancer. She was 76. Her family announced she died in the early hours of Saturday, shortly after a private mass was held in her hospital room. All five children were at her bedside when the end came. "Our mother peacefully passed away at 3:18 a.m. (1918 GMT Friday) of cardio-respiratory arrest," her son, Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., told reporters. "She would have wanted us to thank each and every one of you for all the prayers and your continuous love and support. It was her wish for all of us to pray for one another and for our country." Aquino, known as Cory to millions of Filipinos, was president from 1986 to 1992. But she is remembered, more than two decades after the fact, as the slim woman in yellow who led the "People Power" revolution that toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos. The tumultuous events of those weeks in 1986, which came to a head when up to 1 million people waving rosaries and flowers stopped Marcos' tanks advancing towards Aquino-backed army rebels, became a fairy-tale revolution that gripped the world. When a bewildered Marcos and his wife Imelda fled the nation, it set a stirring precedent for dissidents everywhere, from South Africa to South America to Pakistan. Aquino was hailed as a modern-day Joan of Arc. As news of Aquino's death spread, hundreds of people began visiting her home and the EDSA shrine where her 1986 revolution culminated, leaving flowers and lighting candles. Many tied yellow ribbons to their cars, and on trees near her home. Aquino was a reluctant leader at the start. She shed the housewife's apron only after her politician husband Benigno was assassinated at Manila's international airport in 1983 on his return from exile in the United States. Accusing Marcos of ordering the murder, Aquino led protest marches, but was hesitant when elections were called in 1986. "What on earth do I know about being president?," she said before taking up the challenge to run against Marcos. Both candidates claimed victory in the election, but Marcos fled into exile when the army turned against him. Fairwell and thank you Cory Aquino... by: Mochakiss
