So there is someone to rule this country. If there were no presidents the country that you live in will split up into smaller countries. The president job is to also help us with hard and complex questions that need answers. He also help with making bills (laws) that will help your country improve in many ways. To sum it all up the president help us make big steps and other things. What a COP-OUT answer..Every state has a governor who sets laws for that state. Why do we need a president to also do the same thing? Are we ,"THE PEOPLE" so ignorant that we need so many upper INTELLIGENCE to tell us who, what, where, when and how? If our president can only run for two terms than why shouldn't that be restricted to our congressmen and senators also? Fresh new faces and ideas would generate more intellect into our COUNTRY than 70 year old farts who don't even know why they are on the senate floor..Just to collect a pay check I assume..Since they are the ones who periodically get self induced pay raises..

From the time of the U.S. Declaration of Independence in 1776 and Great Britain's recognition of our independence in 1783 until until ratification of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 and George Washington's first inauguration in 1789, the U.S. had no executive branch. The country was headed by a group of legislators. Life under the Articles of Confederation proved that we needed a "go-to person" for matters such as hosting foreign dignitaries for example.

The primary purpose of the executive branch of government, which is headed by the President, is to execute and enforce the laws created by the legislative branch as interpreted by the judicial branch.
