The master cylinder is shot. The seals inside are allowing the fluid to by-pass.
A brake line may be broken missing or loose.
There are a lot of different things that could be wrong. But initially what it means is that your brakes are going out or are out You should start by checking your brake fluid if that is low it would cause you to loose pressure. If your brake fluid is low and you fill it things should get better if you don't have a hole in your brake line. If the fluid is full check your brake pads
uneven brake fluid pressure to one of the wheels, or bad/loose front end parts. brake culprits; bad brake hoses, frozen caliper brackets/slides, frozen calipers, or wrong fluid or incorrect fluid in the brake reservoir. suspension culprits; bad balljoint, loose upper or lower contol arm bushings, bad tire, or out of alignment.
A leak of fluid somewhere. Check all lines and hoses for a leak and fix until the pedal is firm and does not loose pressure
brake fluid absorbs moisture thus brings the boiling point of your brake fluid down to a much lower temperature. if your brake fluid reaches this temperature you can loose your brakes temporally. also the moisture in the fluid will cause highly unwanted corrosion of internal parts of your brake system.
Loose connection? Stripped fitting (cross threaded or overtightened) Broken brake line?
Bleeder port may be blocked. Try breaking the brake line loose and see if you get fluid that way. Good luck!
To reconnect the brake lights on a Mercury Cougar, first ensure the vehicle is turned off and the keys are removed from the ignition. Check the brake light bulbs for any burnouts and replace them if necessary. Inspect the wiring harness connections at the brake light assembly for any loose or damaged wires, and reconnect or repair them as needed. Finally, test the brake lights by pressing the brake pedal to confirm they are functioning properly.
you loose brake pressure when u start engine. this is supposed to happen. pedal will be hard until engine is started and the vaccuum pump works to assist the poer brakes if the pedal goes to the floor , maybe you need to adjust the brakes. if the vaccuum pump is not working , it will feel like you are standing on a rock when you try to use brakes a good indication of out of adjustment or worn brakes is to look at brake fluid resevior.if fluid is not at proper level, do not add fluid, but check and replace worn disk pads on front, and replace or adjust shoes on rear
Check brake fluid level in master cylinder Make sure parking brake is released Check to see that parking brake switch has not come loose from its mounting bracket
I guess the only 2 options would be to either take it in for repair or keep topping up the brake fluid level in the master cylinder in the engine compartment and hope that the level doesn't drop low enough that you get air in your brake lines and loose your braking ability .
If your power steering fluid is leaking after changing the brake line, it could be due to a few reasons. The change may have inadvertently disturbed nearby hoses or connections, causing a leak. Additionally, if the power steering system was under pressure during the brake line replacement, it might have exacerbated an existing issue. It's advisable to inspect the power steering system for damaged hoses or loose fittings.
