What metal is used in household electric wiring?

Yes, because to conduct electricity you need a metal wire, (usually copper). However they have a plastic outer coating (sheath) which protects them and insulates them.

What do you need and how can you install a ground cable if your 240V outlet doesn't have a ground wire?

You need a 3 conductor wire with ground. For example if you had a 30 amp breaker for that outlet you would need 10awg 3w/ground. That's 10 gauge 3 conductor with ground and replace the old wire back to the panel.

What wire do you connect the ground wire from your car to if the ground wire from your stereo needs to be attached to metal?

The negative battery cable bolts to your engine block and body/chassis of the vehicle. Which means that any metal part of the car is essentially the negative terminal of the battery so whenever you need to ground or earth something on a vehicle you simply find a bolt, nut or screw attached to a metal part of the vehicle and attach the wire to it. if the ground is from your old stereo either follow it and ground you new stereo there or wire them together uses heat connectors. better yet buy a wiring harness and don't worry about the whole mess.

What to do with ground wire in wall when wiring metal light fixture without ground wire into plastic outlet box with ground wire Basically wall has 3 wires fixture has 2 and no place to ground to?

Don't worry about it some fixtures have no ground terminals. just shove the groung wire to the back of the box. Correction, if the fixture is metal and it shorts out, the metal surrounding the fixture could become electrified. That's why fixtures today are normally grounded to their mounting plates and then the lead is attached to the incoming romex. In the past, attaching these plates to metal boxes (either grounded by an incoming wire or grounded to the BX cable) eliminated the need for a ground wire. If the hot wire hit or shorted to the fixture, it would blow a fuse or circuit breaker. Many electrocutions and fires later, the folks at Underwriters realized that even that method of grounding wasn't sufficent (the old aluminum boxes and bx cables were crappy conductors. Solution; (and I practice what I preach because I remodel many old homes) get a little creative and spend the extra time to wrap a little ground wire to a mounting screw, or piece of metal, on the mounting plate of the fixture and then attach it to your incoming romex ground. On an old fixture, it could mean the difference between a fire and a tripped circuit breaker. If you have any metal boxes, old or new, ground to those too. <><><> Connect a pigtail to the metal canopy, and use a wire nut to connect the safety ground to it.

Can neutral and ground wires be connected to the same buss bar in a service panel?

No. The sub panel is wired that same as an ordinary three wire load. The three wire is connected the sub panels terminal points as red to L1, black to L2, white to the neutral bar and the ground wire in the cable set to the ground bar. The one thing that has to be done is the bonding screw that bonds the neutral bus to the panels metallic enclosure has to be removed. The electrical code states that there is only one place that the ground is joined to the neutral bar and that is at the service entrance point into the main distribution panel.

How do you cut an armoured cable?

The use of armoured cable is determined by the application that needs an electrical source of voltage. It is a metal sheath cable classification. Armoured cable is used in applications that need mechanical protection usually below a certain elevation. Armoured cable is also usually used on surface wiring. If you have access to an electrical code book there is a whole section on armoured cable. In the CEC the section about armoured cable starts at 12-600 to 12-618.

Do you connect the ground cable from your car to the ground cable from your stereo or connect the ground caple from the stereo to metal in your car and leave the other wire loose?

If your connecting a stereo, it's always best to ground directly to the negative side of the battery: however you can connect to a ground under the dash also. Some autos have a ground block at the fuse panel that can also be used but you will need a spade connector. your cars body is the ground.connect the stereo ground to a metal part of the car, leave the battery connected to a ground, engine should also be connected to a ground

When I touch my slide in truck camper with the metal part of my cable tv connector I get a short and if I hold the metal end of the connector and touch the camper I get shocked can anyone help?

If a person is getting a shock from touching a cable television connector to the metal on a slide in camper, there might be a ground wire that is not connected. Check the main fuse box in the camper and trace where the ground wire goes. It may need to be connected more securely.

Clutch pedal dont return back on your mk 3 vw golf 1.8?

1) Either your cable is frayed inside the cable sheath. (inexpensive, oil the new cable and sheath on replacement) 2)Or the clutch "push-rod" is wearing through the plate and in a short while will fail and need a new clutch. (expensive) 3)Or the little lever on the last housing has slipped on its splined shaft and you need a new one (inexpensive)

Why does my 1993 jeep cuts off when i remove ground cable?

you need a new alternator

Can you place the battery ground cable to the engine or does it need to grounded to the frame?

Either will work.

Is the negative battery cable considered as the ground?

The battery cable that is grounded, is connected to the body of the vehicle. Sometimes it is the negative cable & sometimes it is the positive. You need to check which cable is connected to the body of the vehicle.

Is there two reason why brake cable should be changed?

In older vehicles that have had the cable adjusted multiple times, the cable can stretch. So if you have adjusted to the max and still cant get the brake to hold you may need to replace the cable. ( Check the pads first tho because I would suspect they are worn also). Another reason would be if you see any frayed or broken strands in the cable. The last would be if you have a hard time setting or releasing the brake. Then you can look at the cables and verify that there is a buildup of material inside the cable which prevents it from moving inside the sheath. You can usually disconnect it at both ends and push or pull it thru the sheath while it is still in place. If it moves freely then no need to replace it. Jonathon

What is the difference between armoured unarmoured and flexible cables?

Armored electrical cable contains insulated electrical service wires protected by a flexible steel covering. Unarmored electrical cable has no protective flexible steel covering, its covering is made of plastic.
