Either will work.
follow the battery negative cable to it's other end and, voila, there is your ground.
It's not that hard, really...This really depends on the cable that you're replacing, but it would be a matter of removing the battery and just follow the path of the cable you're replacing. procedure:remove the grounded terminal first this is the negative on most cars newer than 1970 or so the hot side if you happen to get a wrench on a nut and touch the engine or frame with it you will end up with a molten or red hot wrench ( watch bands and rings too)reconnect the grounded terminal last
There can be several things that can cause your engine to cut out. The two most common reasons are; the fuel pump is going bad, or the battery ground cable is loose.
Follow the large wire from the battery. On the right side of the engine, underneath attached to the bell housing. If the engine is a 302 PLEASE DISCONNECT THE BATTERY before working on the starter as the big cable is live as it is connected directly to the battery.
check the ground for the battery, sounds like the car is grounding itself out right away. even if the ground feels like it is attached solid it could still have enough corrosion inside the wire to cause it to ground out.
The negative battery cable is grounded to the battery tray and engine, close to the starter on the block. It's not a real great ground system but, its all you need if you can keep the battery tray connection clean.
The Negative Battery Cable Is The Engine Ground. If You Are Looking For A Body Ground, Check From The Positive Cable To The Body Of The Car You Will Find The Car Is Grounded To The Engine Also. If You Find Your Body Is Not Showing Ground You Can Run A Strap ( cable ) Frome The Engine And The Body Making Sure On The Firewall, Ect You Have A Good Clean Connection. Hope This Helps
You can connect the battery ground cable to the frame of the vehicle or to the engine.
The battery cable that is grounded, is connected to the body of the vehicle. Sometimes it is the negative cable & sometimes it is the positive. You need to check which cable is connected to the body of the vehicle.
Answer Red cable (+) goes to starter solenoid and Positive side of battery Black (-) cable goes to engine ground. When disconnecting a battery always disconnect the ground cable from the battery first. When connecting a battery always connect the ground cable to the battery last.
Interesting question..glad you ask......The only ground on the engine is the negative cable is attached to the negative post on the battery, then the battery tray, then it is bolted to the block. The connection on the batt. tray sometimes corrodes and is not the best ground. That can be solved by adding your own ground...and then, not to worry.
Depends on the vehicle, but normally it bolts to the engine. The negative is the ground cable.
Ground it to the vehicle frame or engine.
Negative battery cable - a solid metal part of the engine
Good engine ground
From the battery to frame directly under the battery box. From the frame to the engine at the motor mounts with a short ground cable. Usually on the drivers side.
Maybe you mean cable. You can bolt a car battery cable to the block of the engine. Usually under the exhaust manifold.
