Obviously a weak mixture, as using the choke makes the mixture richer.
Quite possibly there's an air leak between the carburettor and manifold
If you have to run it with the choke after it has warmed up, you need to disassemble the carb for cleaning.
MY lawn mower will start to sputter if I run the choke on after the motor is warmed up. It's getting fed too much fuel. Ease off on the choke and it will run better, usually.
Your Briggs and Stratton 5.5hp only runs with the choke on because it needs a tune up.
Could be that the fuel filter is clogged and not allowing sufficient fuel to pass to the carburetor; you might also check the carburetor adjustment needle(s) to see if they may have rattled toward the closed postion.
If all oil the mower will not start. If only a little oil, the mower may start but run rough and smoke very much.
Oil is a lubricant that helps to keep an engine running. If a person runs a lawn mower without oil, the mower will run, but it will cause problems like stalling out, or worse. +++ Its engine will run, but only for a very short time before seizing, probably ruining it.
You might check your primer bulb. Mine was cracked and the only way it would run was with the choke on about half way. I changed the primer bulb -- problem solved. Hope this helps.
Standard is full choke first, then half-choke for a couple of minutes, then run.
You have a plugged piolet jet. The carbs need to be gone through
wouldn't it run on gas or am i wrong
AnswerI can only give you a generic answer bc there are alot of different mowers out there. If it has a priming bulb you want to push it (usually about three or four times). Then you squeeze the safety lever at the handle and the pull the pull chord. If it has a maual choke selector then you first put the lever in the CHOKE position and the start the mower and then gradually push the lever to the RUN position as it is warming up. Also, always make sure the spark plug wire is fully connected and it has fuel before trying to start it to avoid feeling kinda stupid later. Hope this helps and good luck.
Until the engine will run without the choke being pulled.
