Why does Barack Obama have Obama care?

For many years, the Democratic party has been committed to expanding access to health care. Some presidents, most recently Bill Clinton, tried and failed to get health care reform legislation passed. Barack Obama wanted to see legislation that would help more Americans to get affordable health care: for example, many insurance companies refused to cover people who had pre-existing conditions (in other words, if you had been sick in the past, you could not get affordable health insurance).

President Obama decided that if more Americans had access to health care, it would save them money and make their lives better. (It should be noted that most Republicans disagreed with the Affordable Care Act, and also disagreed with the notion that the government should be involved in health care.) But the Affordable Care Act (sometimes called "Obama Care) still passed, and was upheld by the Supreme Court. The new law is supposed to expand access to health care to millions of Americans, including those who had been denied before. And it provides many benefits not available previously. And while it is not perfect, for many Democrats and for the president, it was a good start. I enclose the link to the new law, so you can see for yourself what it has to offer.

When insurance companies no longer care, someone has to! That person has to be influential and effective. Obama Care tries to achieve this goal with utmost earnestness!
