From just the bare information that was supplied, the first place to start would be to see if the brake light switch (located under the dash, very close to the top of the brake pedal arm) could have failed or (very unlikely) become mis-adjusted.
I found there is a small little blue pad that has disentegrated that actuates the brake switch. I put a pencil eraser on the plunger of the switch to make it work for now. There is .25 inch of gap between the plunger and pedal.

If the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder is low ( in your engine compartment ) that will also turn on your emergency brake light just as if the emergency brake was applied
