Because it's part of their culture. Whether it still retains power is irrelevent in their heart. And some do still have a good amount of power. The Queen of Britain for example is the Head of State; that's a real government job that someone else would have to be doing if she wasn't.

Because your question is incorrect.

The Monarchy in Britain have far more power then the government itself.

It's very common for foreign/overseas schools to mislead their students about British Monarchy.

As stated above, the British Monarchy have more power than the British Government. They just choose not to use it.

The British parliament rules the country on behalf of the Monarch.

The Monarchy have the power to dissolve the British Parliament and British government at any time they like and rule the country themselves.

The British Monarch also has the power to:

  • Fire a Prime Minister
  • Declare war
  • Deployment of UK troops anywhere, anytime
  • Launch/order a missile strike on Another Country
  • Take control of troops owned by British Commonwealth countries (Australia, Canada, etc)
  • Hire and fire ambassadors
  • Set up or cancel trades
  • Pass new laws
  • Control Christian churches in the UK (ever since King Henry 8th separated Britain from the Pope)
  • Set up or get rid of British Embassies
  • Appoint or dismiss Ministers
  • Commissioning of officers in armed forces
  • Grant honours
  • Pass, make, decline or cancel diplomatic treaties
  • Pardon criminals
  • Take control of any plot or size of land in the United Kingdom, even if it is already owned

As you may know, the death penalty is outlawed in the United Kingdom. However, the British Monarch still has the power to sentence a criminal to death if they commit treason or murder against the Crown/Monarchy. Although this power has not been used for a very, very long time.
