They provided a noble service to the State of Mexico and the Mexican Army well beyond the numbers that they represented. Many would be considered professional soldiers by today's standard and they were noted for their innovation and dedication to the cause of the Mexican people. They were badly treaty by General Winfield Scott when they were taken prisoner. They were known as the Los San Patricios and Los Colorado Valientes and saw service at Fort Texas, Monterrey, Buena Vista. Cerro Gordo, Churubusco and Mexico City.
