Michael Flatley created Lord of the Dance. He's an American with an Irish heritage. His parents wanted him to learn about his Irish side and they enrolled him in Irish dance classes when he was a boy. He loved it so much he went to class even when they told him he was too old (preteen). At 17 he was the first American to win the All-World Irish Dancing Chapionship. He decided to open his own school to teach Irish dancing, but closed it down so he could perform instead of teach. He conspired the beginnings of Riverdance in 1994 which he left later and created Lord of the Dance.
