Why does a plug slip out as I have to bend the prongs of plugs to get them to stay in the socket and even then they are still loose?

You will only be shocked if you touch the prongs while they are still in the socket or if there is a defect in the cord or plug. If you be sure to touch only the plastic part you should be fine.

Try reversing the drive on your ratchet handle and turning the socket in the opposite direction you were turning it when you got it stuck on the spark plug. Be sure to use a six point spark plug socket. It's much harder to ruin a hex with a six point socket. After you get the socket loose, I'd recommend removing and discarding this plug and getting a new one.

To change the spark plugs on a 2000 Malibu, you need to get a spark plug socket with a u-joint in order to access the plugs on the firewall side of the engine. The plugs up front are easy to get at, and don't require anything special. Word of warning, if your Malibu has relitivley high mileage on it (80,000+) and it still has the factory plug wires, there is a good chance that they will break on you when you have to pry them off of the plugs, go ahead and replace the plug wires when you replace the plugs.

Use your voltmeter. Pull the headlight. You'll notice three prongs coming out of the bulb--one's for high beam, one's for low and the third is ground. Connect the negative lead of your voltmeter to a ground--the front bumper works--and the positive to one of the three prongs. Turn your headlights on and test for voltage on the prongs. One will have voltage; that's the low beam. Now turn your high beams on and check the connector for voltage again. If there's power at the socket replace the bulb--you can't change one filament in a sealed beam bulb. No power? Broken wire, bad socket or bad switch.

The best way to do this is to use a 5/8in. spark plug socket with a wobble head made on to it, a 3in. extention, and about a 6-8in. extention. Another wobble makes it easier but, is not necessary. Be VERY CAREFUL not to break the plugs off. The driver side is much easier than the passenger side but, they can all be done from the top. If you want you can take the EGR exhaust crossover loose. You can reuse the gaskets if you don't bend them up. This creates alot of room. Be patient, as this job takes time. If you still can't get #8 you can take the engine mounts loose and move it over. No you don't have to remove the engine. Last, only use AC Delco plugs for this application. If not you may compromise your throttle response and fuel mileage.
