It is normal for a temperature gauge to go up a little bit until the thermostat opens up and the cooling fan comes on. As long as it is not going out of the normal temperature range it is fine.
either faulty thermostat not opening soon enuff, or wrong temperature thermostat still not opening soon enuff
it shouldn't matter if the hose is soft. as long as the hose allows coolant to flow freely, your fine. but, if your car is overheating, u might want to change the thermostat.
Head gasket. Do block test for gases in coolant
If you're absolutely sure the radiator fan is working properly, have the radiator flow tested. Also, check the thermostat. It may be partially blocked.
check the TVSV Thermo vacume switch valve.
Check your cooling fans in front of the radiator. It could be a relay or fuse to your high speed fan motor. Also, check your coolant temp sensor, antifreeze level, and or thermostat again.
More than likely, it is overheating and has an automatic shutoff thermostat. I recommend you check the air intake screen. If it is clogged with hairspray and dust, that will cause it to overheat quickly. Clean the screen if it is dirty, and that should solve the problem.
You may have to replace the cooling fan relay or the cooling fan itself, I had the same problem and I first replaced the relay and it helped but then the cooling fan went out and I repalced it and now everything is fine.
Sounds like the thermostat is clogged, or that your cooling system is low on fluid. There is one other posibility, but its very rare and uncommon. But the water pump could have warn its pumping fins down, and its not circulating the fluid as well anymore. But I would start with checking the fluid, and then replacing the thermostat.
Wait until the thermostat opens , so the top radiator hose is hot , then squeeze the radiator hose and then stop squeezing - if the water pump is working you will feel a surge of coolant through the hose if the impeller inside the water pump is fine ( I'm assuming that there is no squealing sound or coolant leaking from the weep hole of the water pump )
It could overheat and die or it could be perfectly fine.
