"Yes; acrylic paint is non toxic." That is not always true. Acrylic paint is not made for skin. Some people have allergies to it, and some pigments contain toxic substances e.g. cadmiums, manganese, lead... Your best bet is to go with paints designed specifically for use on skin.
Is the bad smell of acrylic paint toxic?
It's not the smell of acrylic paint that is toxic-- but rather the pigments within some colors that are toxic. Some pigments that are made from heavy metals (like chromium, lead, cadmium, manganese [the original was "magnesium" but magnesium is neither a heavy metal nor toxic nor, I believe, a pigment], and cobalt) that are in certain colors of Acrylic paint (generally the blues and greens) are toxic and can be absorbed into your bloodstream if they get on your skin. However, if it's toxic, it should be CLEARLY marked on the label. Most, if not all acrylic shades are available in non-toxic varieties.So even though the paint itself may not be toxic (unless you start using it as toothpaste or something), you still shouldn't just sit around and sniff acrylic paints. If the smell bothers you, or you start getting dizzy, you should move to a well-ventilated area or near an open window (which you should be doing anyways).Just another warning: certain mediums used for oil paints ARE toxic as are many shades of oil paint.
