chilling an onion keeps in the juice and prevents it from evaporating/vaporizing as quickly. Freezing the onion actually holds it in place completely Chewing Gum is sort of a gimmick; it keeps your mouth open and breathing more than usual. This means that the onion fumes aren't all entering you nasal cavity in as much of a concentration and thus reduces the effect.
"Yes it does prevent that, because the flavor of the chewing gum the aroma it will give into the air which it will present the scent of the onion

The reason you cry from an onion has absolutely nothing to do with the onion's scent. The oil in the onion evaporates and disturbs you both by agitating your eyes and by entering your nasal cavity. There are a few ways to prevent crying from onions:
Freeze the onion
Wash the onion thoroughly after peeling (this does remove some of the flavor though)
Breathe only through your mouth
And, while it may be a little silly, you can take my word that it works every time and with every one I've met: Wear swimming goggles. I've been a chef for 16 years now, and it's the easiest and most consistent way to not tear up.
baucaus when ya eat the dang gum i mean when yer chew it its like mm idk surounding thee um body or whatever? not allowing the onion's smell get to u... and anyways.......
i like square butts and i can not lie! if u wanna get with me u gotta have bunz! word
because of the pures are surronding your body with the gum content and which is preventing the smell of the onion.
because of the smell of the gum, it will help cancel out the smell of the onion.
For me at least it does im not sure about other people
yes
Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying.
I assume your asking "cutting onions", The simplest way I've noted is to turn on the stove fan and let it pull the air away from you as you work on cutting the onion and then wash your hands and tools used.
no
To avoid crying while chopping an onion, you must first remove the bottom portion of the onion. This is where the roots come out and is the place that contains tear-inducing agents. You must remove it correctly or else you'll still cry.
I set the onion in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes and grab a stick of gum. Both are known to be helpful and they really are. And, if the onion is really pungent and might not be good in whatever dish, you can rinse the onion after cutting it.
no UNLESSSS u use googles :D

There are several "sketchy" methods including placing salt on the chopping board, holding a spoon or bread in your mouth, or peeling/chopping them underwater. However, once you out them into a hot pan after chopping they almost always stop affecting one's eyes anyway. -- Chill the onions before peeling/chopping ... some time in the freezer, but not necessary to freeze them completely. -- Pass the onion through a light stream of cold water from the faucet every 15-20 seconds during the surgery.

The volatile oils are unable to escape, so peeling and cutting are more comfortable. There is no need to freeze an onion, though; just keep them in plastic in the crisper drawer of your fridge; they won't make it smell oniony and will always be easy to cut up.
I am also looking for some, but I only have one. Will chilling an onion before cutting it keep you from crying? There is also another one about extracting onion DNA, but i don't know much about it. hope i helped:):) because I'm looking too!
