Your camber is off.
I'm not 100% sure about to fix that on a super beetle but I'm pretty sure your camber off.
either that or you have the wrong size wheels on there.
standard VW wheels should be 165R15
strut front suspension....curved wind shield with larger dash the spare tire will lay flat, standard beetles spare stands up
P165/80R15 is the standard size.
There are two versions of the Super Beetle, one made in 1971 and 1972, the other in 1973, 1974 and 1975. All of them have a louvered front apron (the piece of sheetmetal below the trunk lid, behind the front bumper) and the spare tire lays flat in the trunk. All Standard Beetles had the front tire standing up in front of the gas tank. The 1973-75 Supers also have a curved windshield.
In 1971 and 1972, the Super Beetles had the same flat windshields the "Deluxe" Beetles did. (The curved windshield was introduced with the 1973 model year.) The quickest way is to open the trunk and look at the spare tire. If it's lying flat, the car's a Super. ALL the Supers have the Mcpherson strut suspension so just look at either of the front wheel wells and if you can see a "shock" inside the coil it's a super. There's an easier way, which you can use from 20 feet away from the car: look at the front apron--the piece of sheet metal below the trunk lid. If it's slotted, the car's a Super; if it's not, the car's a Standard Beetle.
AnswerThe super beetle has a curved windshield and different front suspension. There may be other differences. AnswerThe superbeetle is completely different from the windshield forward. It had the curved windshield, strut suspension instead of torsion beam ,and a redesigned trunk area for more space. The easiest way to spot the difference is the windshield, or the spare tire. In standard beetles it stands up, in supers it lays down. From the windshield back they are essentially the same car. True for the '74, but some Super Beetles had flat windshields. The easiest way to distinguish between the two types is to look at the front hood. On all Super Beetles the indentations on the hood are wider at the bottom, on either side of the latch handle. On regular Beetles the hood indentations are pointed at the bottom.Another answerONLY Super Beetles have Strut front suspensions.
i own a 1973 super beetle and when i bought it i had the same problem. we fixed it by replacing the speedometer cable on it. the cable runs from the front, driver-side tire and goes in to the back of the gauge it gets a little tough unless you have tiny hands but that fixed it for me.
Allen Tire Company was created in 1973.
There may be a recommended tire pressure from the factory in 1973. However, I don't think you have the original tires from 1973, so this is what you look for- 1) Look at the side wall of your tire 2) Find the tire size information (example 195/70/13) 3) Below or after that their will be a psi setting (max cold psi 32) 4) Most tires are set between 28-32 psi cold. A 1973 Volkswagen beetle weighs under 2000 lbs so the recommended tire pressure is only around 20 psi in the front and 25 psi in the rear. It's actually a little less. ALL Super Beetles have a McPherson Strut front suspension (the shock is inside the coil) and the spare tire lies flat. The main out side dimensions are the Supers are slightly longer from the windshield forward for the newer USA DOT regulations at the time.
Both the old and the new Beetles will handle snow well due to them both having the engines over the drive wheels. Front wheel drive cars (new Beetles) and rear engine rear wheel drive cars (classic Beetles) have excellent traction in rain and snow. Getting a good tire will help either of these cars in ice and snow, get a good ice and snow rated tire.
