Check the fluid for a burnt smell or odd color. While driving the car with low Transmission Fluid its possible that the bands were damaged.
Do you mean the shifter or car physically does not move? BClear.
by going to a body shop
If no forward or slipping forward suspect problem in the forward clutch and circuit. Reverse does not use the same applied components
trans is slipping
that sounds like your transsion you should have it looked at although you can drive it with out reverse for quite a while
This is the first time I have ever heard anyone state that neutral works fine...................as if not doing anything would go wrong. It's time for "The Transmission Doctor"
Begin by removing the belt from your 1999 Mercury Mystique alternator. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new alternator.
Perhaps similar to my problem in forward . Transmission slipping, Get a Xmission fluid and filter change every 40,000 miles. Sable and Tauras have been known to have Xmission problems.
Is it possible you're pressing the green "no overdrive" knob when you put the car in gear? This will lock-out higher gear range. Just a thought.
it means your tranny has died and will need to be either replaced or rebuild. its common on mystiques & contours its happened to the best of us, usually around 100,000 miles or so.
Remove the vacuum hose from the EGR valve. Pull the valve out of the air cleaner housing. Reverse the process to install the new valve.
it's your usual 1st gear top left lay out. From 1st pull straight down into 2nd, up into 3rd down into 4th, up into 5th. On most mystique's you must pull up a ring on the shifter in order to get into reverse which is the bottom right of the pattern.
