Oil Guage Fluctuations The oil guage indicates the lubricating oil pressure in the engine. Unless the sensor, guage, or its electrical circuit are defective, the drop and rise indicated by the guage are showing lowering and rising of the engine oil pressure. These fluctuations could be related to changes in engine RPM [revolutions per minute], or defects in the guaging system.

Why would the oil pressure gauge on a 2005 Nissan Xterra drop at idle after it's warmed up?

oil pressure normally will go up and down with rms for the most part. when the motor is cold there is more oil pressure as the oil and motor get warmed up the oil thins out and the pressure goes down.

Faulty sensor was one answer for low oil pressure so what sensor could it be?

normally the oil pressure switch is on the main block if you have a pressure guage or oil pressure light on the car if you disconnect the right switch the gauge will drop or the light will go out then you know that's the switch to change.

What cause the oil pressure in a 2000 4.2L f150 to drop to zero then go back up to normal?

assuming there is no abnormal noise (knocking or rattling), and this happens independent of engine rpm, and you are inferring this from the gauge reading, it sounds like either 1. bad sending unit (common) 2. faulty wiring (common) 3. bad gauge (least likely judging by your description)

Why does your oil gauge alarm keep going off and on Oil recently changed?

Physically check the engine oil level with the dipstick to confirm the engine is full of oil. If the engine is full, the oil level sensor or wiring to it may be at fault. If the level is low, go back to where the oil was changed and complain.
