A penny will help some cut flowers like tulips stand up straighter(in a couple of hours) if the stalks have been drooping, but really copper is bad for plants and is used in most moss and weed killers. Although copper is supposedly bad for plants, I almost always put a penny at the bottom of my vases for cut flowers, I think the stalkers stay straighter longer, and they don't wilt so quickly.
