Iris look good with any of the following, which have similar care requirements. The flowering times may vary a little depending on your climate:
If the iris are summer flowering:
roses - white, pink or a mix of the two, or pale yellow.
dianthus
gypsophila
marigolds - pale varietes
petunias - white, pink, pale yellow
If spring flowering try these and also the ones in bold above:
alyssum
candytuft
daisies
poppies - subtle or pinky colors
violas

There are many folk-cures and hear-say remedies for growing plants, many if not most will end in weakening if not killing the plant, the best recourse is to know the plant, know what type of soil it likes, and what kind of nutrients it requires, (well balanced nutrient filled diet) the simple course of action would be: Plain water, Air, Sunlight [full/partial/defused] and a mild form of fertilizer, keeping in mind not to over water or under water.
Sugar will work a whole lot better then those grocery store flower food packets. In 3 days with the packets the flowers are all worn out. With sugar they are full and vibrant.

Orange juice will keep cut flowers alive only for a short time. The sugars in the orange juice will become a source of food for bacteria which will begin to clog the stem of the flower and not allow it to take in the water for its needs.

Yes. They are edible, but I'm not sure they taste very well, or have any nutritional value to them. Eating them would be gross and pointless. ---------- I amso confused at which is a dandelion.
