You may be overfilling. Fill it to the cold full mark and not the warm full mark. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and then all the way to the left. Do this 5 times. This will remove any trapped air. Drive the car and if the P/S pump is noisy repeat the procedure. Always check the level cold, and fill it to the cold full mark and never to the warm full mark.
It's possible but not likely. As far as you are sure that you have put the right kind of fluid, it's not the fluid's fault. It might be joints, power steering pump, pump steering rack, some air or water in the system.
make sure you have power steering fluid and if it is a older car with a v-belt make sure it's tight.
Worn steering rack? Bad power steering pump? Low P.S. fluid? Worn steering components? Low tire pressure?
Check your power steering fluid. Its probably low. Make sure belt is tight and also check that power steering reservoir is full of fluid.
Most power steering noise is caused by low fluid level. Check level in reservior. Other check is make sure belt is tight.
Check to make sure the belt it tight and not slipping at idle. After that try a fluid change. If those things do not fix the problem then you need a new power steering pump.
If your steering wheel is hard to turn, and you have checked to see that the belt is tight, and that you have steering fluid, the problem could be your pump. It might also be the compressor.
Check the power steering pump for fluid as well as make sure that the pump is working and the belt it tight. If the pump is not working then the steering will be hard to turn.
The power steering fluid reservoir is on the right-hand (passenger) side of the car, toward the firewall. It is down very low and will be difficult to check with the engine warm (access is fairly tight.) I used a small syringe to squirt in a small amount of power steering fluid. Although the dipstick had shown it to be full, if I had taken a corner at a good clip in my '04 or turned very sharp, it would whine for a long time after that because it had been pumping air through the steering system. So, I slightly overfilled it. You could also use a very long funnel or a pump that attaches to a quart bottle.
it sounds to be as if your power steering pump is out or low on fluid.
The Power Steering unit is located under the alt. Make sure the engine is cold. Very tight area. I connected a rubber hose to the bottom of my funnel.
bearings frozen in the pump, maybe. It only works when the pump turns...... Number One: Check to be sure the belt is tight, If you are hearing a squeal, the belt may look tight but not be. The serpentine belt has a spring tensioner that I have seen fail, and the belt was just barely tight enough to stay in place, but would not turn the power steering pump at times and it has to turn that pulley to pump the fluid, or no power assist to the steering will occur. Number two: Power steering pumps have internal parts that will fail, and cause the loss of internal pressure. It may just be bad. Number Three: If you are not good at mechanic work...Please take it to the best shop you can find. You need smooth operating, power assisted steering at ALL TIMES. There Is No Fuse to Blow. Power steering by Chevrolet is still by fluid/pump.
